This inventory gives an overview of existing and newly planned micro-insurance schemes in Nepal, called the MIS Inventory. The inventory is part of a worldwide compendium to document ongoing experiences of micro-insurance schemes, which is being compiled by the ILO's strategies and Tools against Social Exclusion and Poverty Programme (STEP) simultaneously in Africa, Asia and Latin-America. In Asia, the inventories are being carried out in Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Other planned inventories in the region will cover the Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Promoting decent work is the mandate of the International Labour Organisation
Promoting decent work is the mandate of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). In the construction sector this means improving rights at work, increasing employment, providing social protection, and enhancing social dialogue. This study is about decent work in civil works in Nepal and Thailand. It aims to provide trade unions, workers' and employers' organization and the Governments of the two countries information about labour practices and the needs of workers, employers, investors in infrastructure and facilitating government institutions. It's ultimate purpose is to inform decision-making and action taking that will result in more decent work in the infrastructure sectors of these countries.

This report presents the findings and recommendations of a project entitled 'Micro and Small Enterprise Policy Review in Nepal' (MSE-PR). Funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the project was implemented by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Kathmandu in collaboration with His Majesty's Government, through Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MOISC) and UNDP, through the Micro-Enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP).

This study deals with the extent of discrimination prevalent against Dalits in Nepal in the world of work, forced labour and child labour, as well as the gender relations within the Dalit communities, in relation to the existing constitutional and legal provisions as well as the relevant United Nations (UN) and International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions ratified by the government of Nepal.

This new report published by the ILO office in Nepal, provides an important synthesis of information on labour migration from Nepal. The document offers a critical overview of statistics on migration, and details a range of limitations and holes in the available data. In addition, the report paints a demographic picture of Nepal's migrant workforce. The author has analysed the caste, class and educational backgrounds of migrant workers in relation to their overseas destination and work opportunities.

Nepal's deteriorating economy, it's political infrastructure
Nepal's deteriorating economy, it's political infrastructure, and the continued impact of neo-liberal economic policies, has left very few options for the provision of effective social and health security. The authors of this study are of the opinion that a broader perspective on social protection, one that aims at extending security mechanisms to include the entire working population, and particularly the informal economy, is fast becoming essential.

A taboo until recently, the issue of sexual harassment at the workplace is gaining gradual recognition as a problem of discrimination against women as workers at the workplace. It is an issue that interfaces with two concerns: violence against women and rights of women in the workplace. Efforts at legal reform for combating violence against women have concentrated on the more extreme cases such as that of rape, while advocacy campaigns for women workers' rights have concentrated on issues such as equal rights for equal pay, rather than on sexual harassment at the workplace.

The publication of this new report by the ILO Office in Nepal, marks an important point in debates about Nepal's Informal economy. For the first time, the significance of the informal economy is recognized and the challenges facing workers discussed. The report provides a wide-ranging overview of the characteristics of Nepal's Informal economy, particularly in terms of demographics, labour relations, and decent work deficits.
